Jonah

The story of Jonah is unique in many ways, among them:

  • It is chiefly a book about a prophet rather than a collection of prophetic oracles.
  • It is the only latter prophet cast in the narrative form.
  • Jonah is the only minor prophet in whose career the miraculous plays a prominent role.
  • He is the only minor prophet who preaches exclusively on foreign soil.
  • He is the only Old Testament character known to have taken a voyage on the Mediterranean Sea.
  • He is the only minor prophet mentioned by Jesus.
  • He is the only Old Testament character likened by the Lord to Himself.
