Ever heard someone try to back out of a commitment by saying, “Promises were made to be broken”? Unfortunately, that’s often true with people. We’re prone to disappoint each other by failing to keep our word.
By contrast, God always keeps His – the book of Joshua is a case in point. Centuries before the Israelites entered Canaan, God promised Abraham that He was going to give the land to Abraham’s descendants (Genesis 15.12-20). The LORD repeated the promise to Moses when He called him to lead the Children of Israel out of Egypt (Exodus 3.8). Later, when the Israelites refused to enter the land at Kadesh Barnea, God promised to give the land to their children (Numbers 14.30-31).
The Book of Joshua tells the story of God keeping His promise. It testifies to the truth about God’s promises that Joshua told his people shortly before he died: “All have come to pass for you; not one word of them has failed” (Joshua 23.14).
